The 777 refers to the numbers on the bathroom buildings that most take to be the 3 pyramids of clue #8. 777 is a "lucky" number because you win jackpots in slot machines with 777. The word lucky is from clue #1. It's a stretch, IMHO (in my humble opinion). ![]()

I think they put the medalian in later, like after the first 8 - 10 clues. I mean if you think about it, if someone found it right away, that would take away all of the fun of looking for it. You know what I mean? Besides, there was one year that my dad was out looking for it and he look around ever single one of the poles that were at the park and then a couple of days later it was suddenly found there. I guess they would have to make it look like they are looking for the medalian and then just plant it somewhere. I am tempted to just go out there and sit there all night to see if someone comes and does that. You never know I guess. ![]()

No, no, no...the commitee thing is just to lead you to the CHAIRPERSON which if you look at the first part sounds like CHER and then at the begining it talks about opening a door. You would need a key for that. Put those together and you have CHERIKEE (however it may be spelt). ![]()

MJ Frog, good thought. But the "high ground" could just refer to the fact that CP is high on the bluff, on the high end of the High Bridge.
I believe it's near Annapolis, because of the "double division" clue. You also need to see the three pyramids rising over the snow.

The only thing that I don't like is when everyone was out at Mounds Park looking for it, there were people going over the edge of the cliff's looking for it, there were people going up on the old Indian Mounds looking for it and other places like that. THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PUT IT ANYWHERE LIKE THAT!!! I wish some of these people would get that into their heads. It's not going to be put anywhere where people could get hurt, it's not going to be on private property or anyother places like that. Some of the treasure hunters have to use their heads!! ![]()

The Sage - 07:10pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5205 of 8457)
OK this is really a stretch, but I'll toss it out. I studied the literary patterns of the clue writer for this year. Long lines but not very good rhythm or metre. Then I looked at clues from previous hunts and clues with the most similar style are from the 1995 hunt.
You'll see if you look that the styles are very different, suggesting different people and different thought processes.
Possibly the same person wrote the clues, or someone who thinks the same way. And if this is true, maybe we can learn about how this person thinks by studying the 1995 clues?
Like Bill Murray said in Caddyshack, if you want to catch this gopher, you have to get inside its pelt and crawl around for a little bit. You have to think like a gopher... i.e., the clue writer. ![]()

Patrick Budion - 07:12pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5206 of 8457)
I think your right, tonights clue may only tell us what it's hidden in assuming it's not in a La Rosa pasta box and that "Rosebud" is actually a sled. Then we will have 2 days with no place to dig. The clue writer is really having fun. ![]()

"Zach....." (said in a soothing voice) Look, it's only Monday... We've a few days left. Now, JMHO, tonite the clue will give objects or something-or-others to zone in on... "we've many miles to go before we sleep." (DAMN!!! LOL!!! That is just TOO literal!!! I'm so tired I was dozing off at work today!!! Sage: Ditto from this tired old brain. Note there are no people talked about this year as there have been in so many years past. All buildings, structures, objects. I'm of the opinion the folks at the Press are in some saddistic pool - all the writers switch off over the years, think up hiding places/clues... and take bets on us Cooler-junkies as to who's the silliest!!!! I feel like a rat in a glass testing cage!!!! I keep wondering if i'm gonna find my piece of cheese!!!!
Nate: Been thinking the same for about 2.5 days, but didn't want to voice it. Folks are *still* laughing at me about all my "double" stuff, but... at least to me, it's all so obvious!!! Hey, well. You speak it, better be able to put up with the rejounders.
(hi-fiving Jim) Too funny!!!
NewDad: You've totally lost me... What cat? Anyway, zap my "fat mouth man" and e-mail with any questions you got. Will be happy to answer all and discuss showing... *However*... NOT NOW!!!! "I Got A Med On My Mind,"... Great name for a song, think?
Got, it BW... but, like I told Dad... Kind'a ain't got time for anything but that damn disk rite now. I've kept your address (thank you) and will be in touch. Have no idea where that child is!!! She called me at work today, we chewed some ideas and she thought she'd stop by CP on her way home from work. She was thinking she'd get off about 6:00 p.m. I, too, am a bit worried. I wish to 7734 she'd get in touch w/me as I've another double division that goes hand-in-glove w/our telly conver earlier today. I've enuff gray hairs w/o her adding to them!!!! LOL!
Hold your hand up very high and cry VERY loud for "PPMCC" logo wear in the coming years!!! ("Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Club") OOOOHHHH!!!! 'Nother thought!!!! Pins for winners each year!!! Nat, my man. You talking to moi? I've my years screwed up? Wouldn't be surpised. The past five days seem like just one big long one. When you take in as much info as some as us have during this time... It all seems, sometimes, to turn to jello in the head.
Checked on a new doo yet? ![]()

I have been looking for this dam thing for almost 20 years, I have been within 5 feet of it about 6 or 7 times. This is the first year, I have been online, it is FUN!!!! ![]()

Charlie Pride: The clue is released at about 11:00 p.m. from the Press building only. At 11:30 p.m. they post it on the Planet. Patrick Budion: Even with all the annoying posts from Joe Medallion and his many alter-egos, this year's Cooler is much livelier than last year. The Press must be drooling at the potential this group has. I had a chance to talk to Casey Trauer and he said it was by far the most popular Water Cooler room last year. My guess is it could equal all other conversations combined this year. ![]()

The last time the medallion was found in CP, people picked up the papers from the pioneer press and were going between 50 and 75mph down West 7th Street. It was really something to see!! ![]()

Greenslvs2, Here I am. Was at the park at 6:00. Walked home about 7 and have been reading ever since.
AMD, shoveling the walks is NOT the block club's responsibility, it's Park and Recs and they say they don't have the money. Yeah, right.!
Hi BW.....
FYI, ran into itsinmy at the park, surprise surprise by the "lucky" sign. ![]()

BW!!!! GREAT IDEA!!! Not only "I've a Well-diggers (referring to it being cold,*usually* when we dig!!!) @ss As I Do The PPMD," or something like that, LOL!!! But bs's for all diggers that "register," like here or something. We can ponder that.
Buttons!!! Yes!!! Buttons!!! Buttons (the sellin of!) could fund the PP prize... Or... the proceeds from the buttons, bumper stickers, hats, other neat junque... ALL THAT could be a new donation to charity... IN ADDITION TO the xtra $1,000 that PP gives the Med winner. A "double" (RISLOLWMP!!) whammy!!! A win-win for everybody!!! And, I'm willing to bet, having gotten to know lots of the "CCC" members... The Diggers would be thrilled (well, the adult majority!!!) to donate proceeds to charity!!!!!!
(That thought is from me feeling bad about someone (me and C????) finding the Med and then Charity not getting it. I feel kind'a crummy for being greedy.....) ![]()

greenslvs2 - 08:08pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5258 of 8457)
Mr. Tom: OH!!! Yes!!! Is this NOT the greatest!!! This is my very first year... And I'm having the biggest blast of all time!!! I'm so worried tho the kids - the rotten ones, not the nice ones - will ruin it and PP will throw their hands up in disgust. Purrsonally, I think if *we*, the PPMCC Members try and police "our" spot and keep the heat off PP - they have GOT to get tired of that crap - then maybe the PPMCC will continue. I'll be really unhappy if it doesn't. Med aside, even!!!
Side note: I'm learning wonderful history of my adopted state, learning how to get around the cities better, meeting and making new friends (waving to BW and C!!!), and getting a better appreciation for the businesses in the area. This is like a big Trival Pursuit game, but on line and MEANINGFUL. ![]()

Green I know where you're coming from with feeling bad about the charity thing. The couple of nights that I did go out and hunt my friends and I had decided that if we found it (there was three of us) that it would be easier to split $3000 by three so we had planned on giving the other $1000 to one of the shelters. I think we need to talk to someone to see if this venture would be possible. INMHO I think they would love the ideas if a portion were going to charity.... ![]()

Just got back from Cherokee and a policmen was anouncing over
his speaker that the medallion has been found. The placed cleared
out in a hurry. I wasn't to sure, maybe he got some bad information,
so I decided to drive by the Pioneer Press bulding. When I walked
up to the door there was that dang sign that gets me every year saying the medallion had been found. :( This really stinks. Oh well
I'm really glad to have met so many people here on Water Cooler and
can't wait until next year. Hope to see you all then. ![]()

Yea, me too!!!! At least I've more than so many.

The hot-line for the Treasure Hunt is 228-2124, on which the voice says the hot-line will be "immediately" updated once the medallion is turned in.
At 8:32 I called, and the recording said the medallions has NOT been found.
It appears that there is either a pure knave working here, or the recording has not been updated (which would be strange given that it is to be "immediately" updated). ![]()
