Greg, you're welcome. Give credit where it is due. Edit MessageDelete Message

I just drove by Mounds and there were only about 10 people digging there compared to about 50 at Cherokee. Edit MessageDelete Message

Time to hit the hay...the drive back to the home computer was exhausting (massive snow from Eau Claire to Wisconsin Dells). I'll talk to whoever's present tomorrow. I'm afraid I'm relegated to e-digging from M'waukee from here on, but at least I can say I was there this weekend. Power to the Water Cooler. Peace out. Edit MessageDelete Message

Last post for the night (promise) ... Nathan: I was at Harriet. I made my first trip after Clue 3 and returned at least 35 more times...and still I wasn't as good as 2 out-of-work east siders. But, hey, they needed it more than I did. Now the guy from Woodbury that found it last year kind of got under my skin. I sincerely hope true diggers find it this year. We desperately need another story like the one with the women who found it at Battle Creek after 30 years of digging. Okay, modem off, lights out. Edit MessageDelete Message

shooting star - 03:10am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4548 of 8457)

When someone finds this darn thing, does anybody know if they'll explain all the clues on this web site, (at least their version) , or are we going to have to wait till next year? Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:31am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4552 of 8457)

just got back from cp the place is a zoo. everyone digging every where. i have a strong feeling about cp. but does anyone know where the big object in view means? Edit MessageDelete Message

Does anyone know if there is a horse shoe pit at Cherokee Park? Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:37am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4555 of 8457)

don't think that there is a horse shoe ring at cp. why the horse shoe ring Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 03:39am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4556 of 8457)

Oh, I'm grasping at anything now. I was just thinking about the words Lucky on from clue one. But I do think chairman might refer to a handicap sign maybe a sign on a door. Edit MessageDelete Message

Ben Hunting - 03:44am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4558 of 8457)

some say the large object is that big rock in the park I don't know if that's it but it's the only thing I can come up with unless it means the cathedrel(sp) Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 03:47am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4559 of 8457)

the lucky is 777 on one of the doors at CP.... i havent seen it but someone else said that way back.... Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 03:47am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4561 of 8457)

Large object was clue 4 and alot of people believe the code is referring to demo/mode=dome. So if that's true then I would think the large object is a dome,.. cathedral or capital. Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:48am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4562 of 8457)

we checked all the doors maybe a street sign Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 03:49am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4563 of 8457)

Raven.. The commitee reference and the door reference in #9 means "chair" and "key" which is chair o key...... Edit MessageDelete Message

Ben Hunting - 03:50am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4564 of 8457)

777 is on the back door of bldg. with the three pyramids but what is immeasurable saying? Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:50am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4565 of 8457)

the 777 is on the building at cp. 777 at any casino is jackpot Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:52am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4566 of 8457)

immesurable is something that keeps going? don't really know Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 03:53am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4567 of 8457)

Immeasurable probably means nothing but if it does i think it may refer to Citizen Kane a la Rosebud (possibly a large mansion in the area??).... see my idea about rosebud on the page or 2 b4 this one..... Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:54am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4568 of 8457)

immesurable is something that keeps going? don't really know Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 03:55am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4569 of 8457)

Well I'm probably wrong and usually am but I don't like the chair-o-key theory. I've heard it a few times tonight. That would only tell us the park and all the clues have lead us there since day two. So I dunno.. Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:55am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4570 of 8457)

immesurable is something that keeps going? don't really know Edit MessageDelete Message

Ben Hunting - 03:57am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4571 of 8457)

then what is clue 5 about besides having a playground in the park? Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 03:57am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4572 of 8457)

lost raven were do you really think it is at Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 04:01am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4573 of 8457)

Well I like Cherokee Park just think chairman is something else. I think the word fore is more interesting than getting key from "To unlock the doorand be at the fore" and the words simply can't ignore imply really large. Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 04:01am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4574 of 8457)

personally i think that they need to get more detailed on the clues we know that they all point out cp. the only thing i don't get is the big object in view, the rocks are just not big enough Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 04:05am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4575 of 8457)

Clue 9 To unlock the door and be at the fore Of the crowds traipsing across our city, Some advice you simply can't ignore Is to think of the person who runs a committee. THIS ONE MEANS CHEROKEE FOR SURE

Clue 8 To keep up the pace and win our race There's no need to wander to and fro Instead you should look near a place Where three pyramids rise over the snow 3 PYRAMIDS IN CP AND STAY ON A PATH OR SIGHTLINE

Clue 7 If you just don't know where to go Here's a clue to aid your decision: The medallion that promises lots of dough Is near a line of double division. DOUBLE DIVISION IS ANNAPOLIS ST DOUGH IS BAKER ST Clue 6 If you're on the wrong track don't blow your stack Just look for a plume of smoke in the skies With this in view you'll soon be back In the hunt for our valuable prize NSP SMOKE STACKS... AND TRAIN TRACKS

Clue 5 We'd be the first to say that a place to play Can make any winter more pleasurable City streets will also show you the way To riches that are almost immeasurable CITY STREETS=ANNAPOLIS

Clue 4 A large object in view will help guide you, But first you'll have to crack our code. So here's a demo of the mode to pursue, As you hunt for the mother lode. MODE/DEMO=DOME

Clue 3 Roses don't bloom in winter's gloom But a "Rosebud" could still give pleasure. So watch for a place where kids like to zoom, And you just might take home our treasure. SLEDDING HILL AND POSSIBLY THE MEDALLION IS ON THE BOTTOM OF A "SNOW DOME" (CITIZEN KANE)

Clue 2 In the neighborhood are water and woods And lots of scenery all around So if you want to find the hidden goods Look for a place with high ground. SELF EXPLANITORY.. AND THAT IS WHY CP IS A ZOO RIGHT NOW Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 04:06am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4576 of 8457)

Hey how about this. A handicap parking sign says handicap parking only. Advice you simply can't ignore and it's a picture of a man in a chair. a chairman... O.k. I should get some sleep right.. Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 04:07am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4577 of 8457)

IF ONLY I HAD A CAR I WOULD BE THERE RIGHT NOW....... Edit MessageDelete Message

DJ101DJ - 04:08am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4578 of 8457)

lost raven the words unlock the door ( key ) chairman runs the commitee (cher ) in other words cp it has to be there

nathan what do you mean by SNOW DOME? OTHER THAN THAT ONE THEY ALL MAKE PERFECT SENSE. GOOD THINKING, ANY OTHER IDEAS Edit MessageDelete Message

Ben Hunting - 04:12am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4581 of 8457)

any protests "objections" happening in veiw of cp lately? Edit MessageDelete Message

LostRaven - 04:12am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4582 of 8457)

Well,, I think everything points to cherokee too. Looking at other ideas on tonights clue does not mean ya gotta go to a different park. But then again if it's in cherokee (which is where I was digging at 12:00am) then I dunno where.. So, if ya say hey we gotta at least consider some other possibilities or we could miss it all together. Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 04:12am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4583 of 8457)

people read into these too much i think.... of course there is usually one or 2 deep meanings in all of the clues but this late in the game its just luck.... Edit MessageDelete Message

It's over some lucky person has found it. Just got back from Cherokee and a policeman was announcing it over his loud speaker. This really stinks considering I thought this would be my luck year. On the way home, I drove by the Pioneer Press building thinking maybe the policeman had some bad information but that dang sign that get's me every year said the medallion had been found and to look for explanations to the clues in the mornings paper. Well, off to bed now as depressed as ever. Edit MessageDelete Message

Hi all...the 9th clue gave you the name of the park!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 09:08am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4641 of 8457)

You guys, today's clue all but spells out Cherokee. Why do you think Casey? The first line, "to unlock the door..." and the last line "a person that runs a committee." What do you unlock a door with? A KEY! And who runs a committee? A CHAIRperson. Put them together and you have CHAIR - KEY... CHEROKEE! Get it? Edit MessageDelete Message

Allie Go - 09:14am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4642 of 8457)

A friend sent me this poem from CA...thought you all might enjoy it.

Look under the tree.

Look over there under the tree, Cant imagine what you will see.

Are you up for wintry fun, Will you be the lucky one?

Are you looking near water and woods, Will you find the hidden goods?

Will you search in winters gloom, Where the kiddies choose to zoom?

These questions come to mind, When it is the Hunter I try to find.

She is out in the winters cold, Digging in a park I'm told.

No more time for Im's or mail, Obsessed she is she will NOT fail.

So dig and pick and pick and dig, Dont yank out hair, dont want no wig.

You must call and keep up with clues, while trying desparately to keep dry shoes.

Running noses and frozen toeses, Standing there in your thinking poses.

I hope you find this thing you seek, Your thoughts on where you must not leak.

Look here and there and high and low, Look towards the Pyramids, Damn NO NO NO.

Not there either I see, Look over yonder under that tree.

I hope you find it (Allie) Edit MessageDelete Message

when I left here last night around 11:45 we had C.P. all figured out.Where did casey park come from or did you really mean "case the park" WOW Edit MessageDelete Message

Deb Speidel - 09:20am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4644 of 8457)

what about the dough clue, baker park is right by Annapolis and Dodd road, which is a "double" division line. The only thing i cant find is the 3 pyramids-- which are at cherokee park. Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 09:26am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4645 of 8457)

If you look at past years, the clues aren't really THAT deep. They usually have only one meaning and the rest of the words are filler to help them rhyme. Last night's clue just pinpoints Cherokee, that's all. No golf stuff with the word fore, no deep meaning in traipsing. It just means it's at Cherokee. Edit MessageDelete Message

Allie Go - 09:28am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4646 of 8457)

The only thing is....the ninth clue named Cherokee. Edit MessageDelete Message

Catch 22 - 09:28am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4647 of 8457)

Deb--Baker park is not a park it is a playground. An early post stated that they are very clear when they say park that it is in park not a playground, rec area or anywhere else. It has to be at Chair-o-key! Edit MessageDelete Message

Catch 22 - 09:30am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4650 of 8457)

I think "fore" means that you will be in the lead to finding the med if you "unlock the door"--key and "think of the person who runs a committee"--chair. Edit MessageDelete Message

master j p - 09:31am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4651 of 8457)

everyone, look back at around #'s 3600 or before and look for my name. I explained everything about casey. Casey was also the name of a guy who was on the council or committee(whatever you want to call it) in 1974, the year it was also found in casey park. Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 09:32am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4652 of 8457)

Catch22 - don't get your feathers in a bundle, Tomski is just being silly, we all know he's not serious and it's not worth getting jacked up about. He knows as well as we do that it's a Cherokee. For some reason some people still think it's funny to see people react to them trying to mislead them.. I have a sneaking suspicion that an awful lot of the people on this board are junior high kids. Catch 22 - 09:42am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4658 of 8457)

Where the medallion can be found in Cherokee--

Clue #3--"Rosebud"--sledding hill

Clue #4--"large object in view"--NSP tower, "demo of the mode"--dome

Clue #6--"plume of smoke"--NSP tower

Clue #8--"no need to wander to and fro"--back and forth like a swing set(not near swing set), "three pyramids"--bathrooms

With these in mind, you have to be near the bathrooms in a place that you can see the NSP tower and the Cathedral dome. There are not to many places at CP that you can see both. The dome is almost always blocked by a tree. My guess is that the "high ground" clue also refers to it being in a tree or off the ground, not in the snow! Edit MessageDelete Message

Catch 22 - 10:00am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4675 of 8457)

There is winona, wyoming and sidney (not sydney as in australia though) that all run into the park. And the dough clue could point to Baker St. Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 10:00am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4676 of 8457)

I think in clue 8 they mean the medallion is near a spot where it looks like the bathroom roofs rise over the snow (not be near the pyramids).. but I think I'm giving away my favored digging spot too much! And I also think the large object in clue 4 is the dome itself. It's not two domes, it's one... A (as in one) large object in view.. then they make us figure out what that object is - a dome. I'm not telling WHICH dome I think it is.. Edit MessageDelete Message

I think the kids go zoom is the sledding hill that goes down toward the ball diamonds at Annapolis. Earlier in the clue it references Rosebud, which is the name of the sled in Citizen Kane. I think they go hand in hand. In the past, most clues only give away one thing. People are trying to cram two and three different messages into each clue. It doesn't usually work that way. The "kids like to zoom" being a slide is a theory that's been batted around. I think the slide at Cherokee has all but been dug off its bolts. The slide is well in view though. The only trouble I have with the sledding theory is the hill that I saw kids using on Saturday is on the other side of a grove of trees from the bathroom pyramids. However, I was over by the hill during the day and by the bathrooms at night. Does anyone know what the view of the sledding area is from different sightlines below the bathrooms? I couldn't tell in the dark. Edit MessageDelete Message

JazzyBloom: Annapolis is thought to be one of the "city streets" and it also serves as a dividing line twice -- once to divide St. Paul from Mendota Heights, once to divide St. Paul from Lillydale (it also divides parts of Cherokee Park itself). SueBee: The top of the sledding hill sounds like a nice idea as long as you stay away from the hill itself. I don't think the medallion would be hidden somewhere that would ruin the kids' fun. Another silly idea about the "dome" theory my friends and I came up with was the actual sign at Annapolis and Cherokee Heights Blvd. that welcomes you to St. Paul has the capitol dome on it. A stretch but we dug around there anyway (then we built a 7' snowman that was obliterated by the time we went back a few hours later -- dem darn kids!) Edit MessageDelete Message

I think it may be on the bottom of one of those "snow globes" because in Citizen Kane thats what he dropped when he muttered "Rosebud" and all the reporters tried to figure out it's meaning just like we are doing right now..... Edit MessageDelete Message

Other great camouflage: White Castle hamburger box; as filling for Oreo cookie. Mean camouflage: taped between leaves; stuck inside of a real snowball; buried beneath ice; magnetized and stuck under a mailbox. SueBee: I'm with you on sharing good ideas. Those of us that have been lounging by the Cooler since early on would like to see a fellow Water Cooler pal find it...so long as they mention how the Cooler was a help to them. All agree that we don't want to see another "oh, I just stopped and looked for a few minutes and there it was" story? Edit MessageDelete Message

there are two types of tresure FINDERS. Unemployed or on their lunch break. I'm off to lunch at the park Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 12:14pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4771 of 8457)

You bet, Deb. I'm tempted to take part of the afternoon off, but don't know if I will. Nathan - a snow globe is a good possibility. I kind of like that. However, if you really look at past years, what the medallion is in is often not made known until clues 9 or 10 too. Yes, last year it was clue 3, but it hasn't always been that way. Greg Sax - 12:25pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4786 of 8457)

Deb & SueBee: I wish I could be back at Cherokee as well, but I'm afraid I had to leave the hometown for my current roost in Milwaukee. Golddigger: It's nice to see the effort at metrosupersaver.com but there are several mistakes there. For a more proper list (with clues) check www.pioneerplanet.com/archive/wintercarnival/hunt.htm. But that one's not perfect either -- Kurt Condie found it at Cherokee the last time it was there. It was the second time he found the medallion. Considering that Cherokee is where it's at this year, you think they would've gotten it right! Edit MessageDelete Message
