BeeyoB - 11:48pm Feb 1, 1998 CST (#4310 of 8457)

Cher is VERY dug up, but not dug up enough. If it's there, where we're looking, then it's been dug up already, and laying for the next person. It's happened many times before when everyone thinks it's gone. In hindsight, could the "track" clue be the tracks in the snow from the recent tree trimming trucks? Just wondering...don't miss Joe M at all. Edit MessageDelete Message

B.J. Mack - 11:49pm Feb 1, 1998 CST (#4311 of 8457)

This is the equivalent of last year's "governor of a great state...without you." For those of us who've been there for several days, it doesn't help much.

Anyone (Pat?) have a more in-depth interpretation? Edit MessageDelete Message

B.J. Mack - 11:52pm Feb 1, 1998 CST (#4321 of 8457)

we knew it all along, huh gs2?

But it's not enough reason for me to head out there tonight. I was hoping they would narrow down the area in which to search. Instead they just confirm my park pick.

....wasn't Eddie Mounds the chair of the Minnesota Senate Education Committee back in the '60s?...and Division St. divides in two...those mounds look like pyramids if you lie on your back.... Edit MessageDelete Message

1st time...The building at CP has three distinct Pyramid looking Roofs that house it. From the right vantage point they look like Giza... and if you line them up just right you can see NSP smokestack over the middle one and the sledding are directly behind you. Large object (big rock??) just to your left as you look at smoke stack.... Edit MessageDelete Message

I knowexactly where it is so im leaving now. first one there gets it. first you have to be able to see all of the items. {large object-the rock, over the middle pyramid there is the smoke stack, and the domes especially the DECO part on the capital. once all of that is found find an object that it could be by and start digging. see ya later. Greg Sax - 01:00am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4438 of 8457)

I did a search on "Web Master" ... the first post from this name is the one that just appeared. With the link to the e-mail address webmaster@pioneerplanet.com it's either a very clever hoax or that's all she wrote. I wouldn't be surprised. The hiding spot was obviously near the 3-pyramid shelter off of Annapolis. My guess is the spot lined up with the NSP stack and a view of the Cathedral (or some other dome). Last night at about 2:00 a.m., the area was in a sort of first-run dig effort except for a pristine patch of snow on the north side of Annapolis. BUT, where Mounds was completely leveled, there were still plenty of piles of snow to sort through at Cherokee. And an Altoids tin could be spotted easily in the dark. Edit MessageDelete Message

As for searching back through the posts, I simply click the "Search" button provided as a choice at the bottom of the most recent message on the page I'm viewing, and then I type in the text I'm looking for. This is particularly helpful when I want to find out when a particular person last posted and what they were thinking. People are always leaving in a hurry, hooting as they leave, and honking their horns. Historically, the people who find it leave real quietlike because 1) they still can't believe they have it, and 2) they're worried that they'll be mauled and beaten with shovels by a throng of tired diggers. First Timer: I noticed what Walsh wrote, too. It's interesting that the Press sent someone out to cover the hunt day-to-day this year. Soucheray has mumbled a few complaints over the years about how he can't go looking for the medallion, but they've never made a point to have one of their own out in the field. Jimbo's a good choice but it is a departure. Usually, they step back because they don't want us to cry foul (Press folks aren't allowed to look for the medallion so we might not like them hanging around our dig sites as it might take the fun out of the search). Personally, I like the Walsh diary. It's good to see the Press showing more enthusiasm for what is one of their greatest contributions to community building. Edit MessageDelete Message

I'll keep the pleasantries brief (hey, how's it goin'!) because folks here get antsy when you stop talking about the clues. LostRaven: a clever person earlier came up with "key" from "unlock the door," and "chair" from "person who runs a committee," thus: Chair + Key = "Cherokee." There's some helpful, brilliant people here. Much easier to discuss ideas at the Water Cooler than in the snow with crazed diggers wearing spelunking helmets. Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan: Good thinking on nixing the Altoids container. I'm pretty sure I've been searching in the right park, within at least 50 yards of the hiding place, but I still don't know what I've been looking for. I have nightmares that they hid it in another grass/clay combination or a snowball again. Some good people who've done their homework have mentioned that the hiding place tends to be given in Clues 3 and 4, but I haven't heard any solid theories about the actual thing hiding the medallion from that angle. Baker is a "Playground" not a "Park." The medallion hiders have been very specific about putting it at parks. It has yet to be at anything named "Field," "Playground," "Recreation Area," or the like. If you feel like Baker is tied in because of the reference to "dough" then it may fit better to think of Baker Street running into Cherokee. Edit MessageDelete Message

Greg I saw that post on the chair-o-key theory but that doesn't work for me. I think Cherokke park is a good idea but....who knows. Edit MessageDelete Message

shooting star - 02:32am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4512 of 8457)

CS, South side of the park, on the fence and trees. Found a ton of golf balls over there when I dug up the fence 3 days ago. Bummer they were all solid. Edit MessageDelete Message

Those guys that left like a bat outta hell, were back an hour later. Some people are amused easily. Edit MessageDelete Message

SS, thx....Hope all is well with the little one. Edit MessageDelete Message

Brian Carlson - 02:38am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4515 of 8457)

how about a theory that the med is enclosed in a video rental box...coming from the "rosebud" clue. Edit MessageDelete Message

Fair Trade - 02:39am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4516 of 8457)

What ever happened to the idea of a Pace Picante Sauce lid? I kinda liked that one. Edit MessageDelete Message

Brian Carlson - 02:40am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4517 of 8457)

where did the lid idea come from? Edit MessageDelete Message

shooting star - 02:42am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4518 of 8457)

Yeah, everythings fine. Just gotta rest for a while when that happens. A few days ago a guy I was by found a VCR tape with one of the spools punched out, thought for sure someone found it then. guess I was wrong. Edit MessageDelete Message

shooting star: I love the dedication. Your child-to-be will be proud to know s/he was searching from the womb. cats meow: you've been all over the place, haven't you? But don't sweat it. I spent some time up at Mounds, too. And you'll be proud to know that I dropped one of your theories about piloting and flying to some friends when I was home this weekend (but I never bought into your "deco" theory -- can't win 'em all). dennis berg: if you can figure out how to e-mail me, go ahead; otherwise I'll catch you at your webtv address at a later time. It's good to hear from you though (oh, and don't bother wishing me luck...I'm back in Milwaukee). Edit MessageDelete Message

Fair Trade - 02:44am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4520 of 8457)

I don't know where the lid thing came into play, but the Pace part is in a clue. Edit MessageDelete Message

Ben Hunting - 02:45am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4521 of 8457)

Perhaps I didn't read back far enough but I havn't seen anybody say they checked by "home"(clue 3) plate on the baseball diamond below the sleding hill where you might be able to see the Pyramids. Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 02:45am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4522 of 8457)

it cant be in the pace picante lid because once again... METAL!!!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

Fair Trade - 02:46am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4523 of 8457)

This whole thing is really frustrating. We spent three hours at Cherokee tonight - I was sure I had it when I found a tied up plastic bag. But inside was another plastic bag, and another, and another... Oh, well. I still think we were in the right area. I have two papers to write tonight for Comp at the U, so I gotta get to work. Good luck everyone! Edit MessageDelete Message

im thinking the rosebud reference may be a small "snow globe" kinda like the one Kane dropped when he said rosebud..... Edit MessageDelete Message

DeBlonde1 - 02:48am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4525 of 8457)

what on earth is 'double division'? Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 02:49am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4526 of 8457)

but hey who wants to listen to a guy that looks like Kramer right? Edit MessageDelete Message

The home plates have been dug up for days. Edit MessageDelete Message

Greg Sax - 02:50am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4528 of 8457)

Brian: I must've missed the video rental box thought. That's the best I've heard so far. For "Rosebud," I've heard these explanations: La Rosa pasta container, Thorn Street, hidden in a fake rose, attached to piece of sled, Pioneer Press building in view (Hearst/paper magnate -- from Mounds only), and every variation of Citizen Kane/Orson Welles/etc. A video box would be so nicely simple and I wouldn't hate the clue givers as much as I did for "can-do affair." double division=annapolis which divides two counties and st.paul from w.st.paul hence the double division Edit MessageDelete Message

The whole revene has hardly been touched, we looked a little bit down there before we left tonight. But you really can't see many of the sites from there except for the signs and the sliding hill. Edit MessageDelete Message

Nathan Trivette - 02:53am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4532 of 8457)

Hey greg what about my theory??? under the bottom of one of those snow dome thingies that Kane dropped when he muttered rosebud? Theyre small, plastic and fairly tough to find in the snow/ice.... Edit MessageDelete Message

Denise Blonde1 - 02:55am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4533 of 8457)

wonderful....thank you..everyone is so clever..I love just watching everyone out there with their pitchforks and shovels...and flashlights...good luck to all! Edit MessageDelete Message

Rosebud is the name of a battle that took place in South Dakota. Edit MessageDelete Message

Greg Sax - 02:59am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4538 of 8457)

Nathan: the snow globe idea is a good one, but might be too much beyond the obvious. That's about how I think of the clues, but they rarely get so involved. Ian: thanks for the credit line at your web page. Edit MessageDelete Message

First Timer - 02:59am Feb 2, 1998 CST (#4539 of 8457)

Sorry, the full name was the Battle of Rosebud Creek. Edit MessageDelete Message
